In The Garden

For the last 20 years my garden has been my refuge, taking away my cares any time I set foot outside.
Below was a porch to a home of mine.  I loved coming home to be greeted by a welcoming porch swing and my beautiful waving American flag.

From seeing how  plants grow, flowers bloom, and seeing seemingly dead plants come back to life, the garden has the power to heal us, if we just let ourselves get lost in it. Every spent rose I remove takes away a layer of stress that otherwise would burden me.

Below you see my beloved dog, Tommy, trying (but failing!) to catch a butterfly.  This area had no flowers, and within one growing season the flowering plants grew as tall as me.

Here is another view of the plants blooming.

This is a view of the yard after I had scattered rose petals that were ready to fall off the plant.
Children love to garden too, as you can see here.  This my grandson, West, helping me "prune" my Berries & Cream rose bush. The flowers here are Sweet William (in front of him), Garlic Chives is the spiky green one to his right, and Mexican Primrose to his far right with pink flowers.
Oh, boy how he loves being outside!

Below, left side, is a purple Butterfly Bush I started from a clipping.  You'd be amazed what grows from clippings if you just dip the tip in a little Rooting Hormone powder.

I have moved 7 times in the last 20 years and every  time, whether big or small, my gardens have healed my soul by just walking among the flowers any time of day.

Next time you get the chance, stop to smell a flower or see butterflies go by.  Once you take time to get to know your plants, you'll get to know when they're thirsty or when they need pruning.  You should try it, if you're not already a gardener. You do not need a yard, any container plant near a sunny spot will do wonders, too....try it!  ENJOY GARDENING!!
